Providing NHS services
Tyneside Surgical Services (TSS) has announced the expansion of its services, building on nearly 20 years delivering high-quality NHS care, and widening access to innovative treatments for patients across the North East.
The independent healthcare organisation, which provides services to the NHS, now also offers self pay and insured services.
It has enjoyed sustained growth since it moved into purpose-built facilities on the Team Valley in Gateshead in 2022 – with a 55% increase in the number of patients it has cared for.
In 2022, TSS carried out 11,643 episodes of care (including appointments and surgeries) – this grew to 18,306 episodes in 2025. 99.5% of patients have said they would recommend the service to their family and friends.
Hamdy Ashour, managing director of TSS, said: “We’re proud of the growth we’ve achieved, and of the NHS standards we’ve built our service around for nearly two decades. And thanks to the hard work and compassion of our team, patient satisfaction is extremely high.
“This expansion into private healthcare alongside our NHS work allows us to widen access to some of the North East’s leading consultants – offering some of the latest innovations in surgery.
“At TSS, we’ve built our service around doing things efficiently – which means we can offer faster access to our consultant-led care at an affordable price.”
TSS provides a broad range of consultant-led services, including orthopaedics (hand & wrist, knee, foot & ankle and spine), pain management, endoscopy, gynaecology and general surgery, as well as non-surgical aesthetics.
As part of its expansion, TSS is introducing and growing a range of innovative procedures and services.
This includes:
Steve Atkinson, commercial director at TSS, adds: “We’re seeing more people coming to us via self-pay and insured routes because they want clarity, speed and consultant-led care. We’ve expanded our self-pay and insured offer to meet that need – with straightforward pathways, transparent next steps and the same clinical standards we’re known for through our NHS work.”
