Mr Siddek Isreb is a consultant upper GI and bariatric surgeon in Stockton and Darlington with expertise in keyhole removal of the gallbladder, keyhole and open repair of groin and other abdominal wall hernias, gastroscopy and endoscopy, keyhole Nissen fundoplication and surgery for gastro-oesophageal reflux, as well as bariatric surgery and lump removal and treatment of ingrown nails and general surgery of childhood. He privately practices at Woodlands Hospital – part of Circle Health Group, Consultants Choice Clinic and Tyneside Surgical Services, while his NHS base is North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust.

Mr Isreb, who provides both elective and diagnostic upper gastrointestinal surgery, uses minimally invasive techniques where appropriate to support safe recovery and effective outcomes.

Mr Isreb completed his primary medical degree at the University of Damascus and has since undertaken extensive postgraduate training, including an MD, MSc, PhD and a postgraduate diploma in medical education. His academic background underpins a structured, evidence-based approach to clinical decision-making and patient care.

Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in medical education and surgical training. He is a basic surgical skills trainer with the Royal College of Surgeons of London, a member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and an honorary clinical senior lecturer at Newcastle University. He supervises undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and contributes to assessment processes within Newcastle University Medical School. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Mr Isreb has published widely in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, including a leading article in the British Journal of Surgery, and has received recognition for innovation, including first place at the Bright Idea Awards in 2011. His practice combines technical expertise, academic rigour and a strong commitment to teaching and high standards of patient care.Mr Isreb is an Upper GI bariatric surgeon, with interest in general surgery of childhood, at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust. He completed his surgical training at NHS England Education North East and gained his CCT certificate in October 2021. Following a post CCT robotic/bariatric fellowship at Reading, he was then appointed at North Tees in September 2022.

He completed training and speciality registration in two countries and his NHS practice includes a wide variety of open, endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures for adults and children.

He has completed a large, design-based research project to create an online training course which teach surgeons to safely remove the gallbladder in keyhole surgery, as well as focusing on other aspects of training and patient safety in theatre. He has multiple publications in high impact journals, including a leading article in the BJS as well as his research gaining the first place in the bright idea award 2011

Alongside his clinical experience, he developed an extensive background in education throughout his career, including supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students and completing a diploma and PhD in medical education in 2017 (surgical skills assessment and training). He is also a member of the Newcastle university medical school assessment team with an Honorary Clinical senior Lecturer status at Newcastle University. Furthermore, he is a Basic Surgical Skills trainer at the Royal College of Surgeons of London as well as a Member of the Faculty of surgical trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, MFSTEd and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
