0191 737 1089Miss Nithya Ratnavelu is a subspecialty trained Gynaecological Oncologist with over 13 years of experience in managing women at all stages of presentation with cancer.
A specialist in managing disorders of the vulva and accredited with the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology as a Colposcopist, she receives regional referrals for Complex Vulva Disorders and Multizonal Neoplasia.
She treats both NHS and private patients.
In addition, she is expert in minimal access surgery for treating benign conditions and cancer.
Upon qualifying in 2003, Miss Ratnavelu trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Northern Ireland and the West of Scotland. In 2011, she further sub-specialised in Gynaecological Oncology in Gateshead whilst gaining a Masters in Clinical Research from Newcastle University.
Miss Ratnavelu is the Lead for the weekly Regional Gynaecological Multidisciplinary Cancer meetings, which receive referrals from the North East and Cumbria, and encompasses a female population of over 2.5million women. In addition, she is the Cancer Lead for Surgical Specialties at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Her national positions within the British Gynaecological Cancer Society, include Chair of the Professional Development Committee, member of the Guidelines committee, representive of the North of England at Council, and liaison with National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Miss Ratnavelu believes that women can often care for other women with greater understanding, and it is important for them to be able to access female gynaecologists when symptoms arise.
Outside of work she is an avid marathon-runner and mother of two.
