Mr Kakwani completed his Higher Surgical Training at the Northern Deanery, gaining the FRCS (Orth) accreditation in 2012.

He was fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery under Mr Ian Winson / Mr Steve Hepple, Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, United Kingdom, and under Mr Chris Blundell, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. The fellowships have empowered him to attain excellence in foot and ankle surgery including ankle arthroplasty, foot and ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive foot and ankle trauma and elective surgery in addition to the basic operations such as hallux valgus surgery, flatfoot and cavus foot correction.

Mr Kakwani completed the AO Trauma Fellowship in Hannover, Germany in 2011. He was awarded BOFAS Travelling fellowship to the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit, Seattle in 2014. He has been a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for the Orthopaedic Specialty Trainees and teaches in a variety of regional and national courses. He was voted to be the Trainer of the Year 2017 by the Orthopaedic Registrars (Health Education North-East).
